How to create a LinkedIn profile from your CV
A useful profile helps readers understand your field and the work you have done. Start with the facts in your CV and adapt them to each LinkedIn section. Use this builder to prepare and review your content before moving it into your account.
1
Start with your CV
Upload a PDF up to 4 MB, or sign in to choose a CV saved in Astr. Check the job titles, organisations and dates in your source before you start.
2
Choose a language and review
We suggest your CV's language, and you can change it. Add an optional target role to guide the wording, then edit any text in the preview to reflect your experience accurately.
3
Copy into the right section
Each field has a copy button. After copying, choose Go to LinkedIn, follow the section guidance, paste your text and save it in your account. The preview works on desktop and mobile.
What belongs in each LinkedIn profile section?
LinkedIn headline generator
Use the headline draft to explain your role, focus and relevant skills. For example: Accountant | Financial Reporting & Reconciliation | Excel. Keep only titles and skills that accurately describe you.
LinkedIn summary generator — About
Turn the facts in your CV into an introduction in your own voice: your field, work or projects you have completed, and what you want to do next. Include a result when you have one, keeping figures and qualifications accurate.
Experience, education and skills
Give each role its title, organisation, dates and a short description of your work. Put qualifications and schools in Education, and add relevant skills individually in Skills.
Projects, volunteering and certifications
Use Projects for project work, Volunteer experience for volunteering, and Licenses & certifications for credentials. These sections appear in your preview when they exist in your CV, with guidance for finding them.
LinkedIn headline and About examples
Illustrative examples, not real people's profiles. Use the structure and replace the details with your own experience and skills.

About
I am a computer science graduate who worked on a team task-management project using React during my studies. I focused on building interfaces, testing usability and documenting work with my team. I am looking to start my career in frontend development and build experience with products people use.
I teach mathematics and enjoy turning concepts into activities students can understand and apply. My experience includes planning lessons, tracking student progress and designing support activities around their needs. I share teaching materials with colleagues and work on developing active learning practices in the classroom.
Before you update your LinkedIn profile
Match organisation names, job titles and dates to your CV.
Choose words that describe your real skills and fit your target roles.
Review the suggested text and remove anything that does not reflect your experience.
Use your own profile photo if you choose to add one; preview portraits are illustrative.
Questions about building and improving your LinkedIn profile
How do I create a LinkedIn account and prepare my profile?
Sign up on LinkedIn's website or app first. Upload your CV to Astr to prepare your profile text, review it and copy it into your account's sections. Astr prepares the content and preview; account registration and saving your changes happen on LinkedIn.
What should I write in my LinkedIn headline?
State your role or field, then your area of focus and one or two relevant skills. Graduates can mention their degree subject, projects or practical skills. Avoid overstating your title or adding a qualification you have not earned.
How do I write a LinkedIn summary or About section?
Start with who you are professionally, explain the work or projects you have completed and the skills you used, then describe what you want to work on next. The builder prepares a draft from your CV that you can edit before copying it into About.
Can graduates use it without work experience?
Yes. Start with a CV containing your education, graduation projects, internships, volunteering and skills. Describe a project as a project and an internship as an internship; you do not need to invent a previous job to build a clear profile.
Should my LinkedIn profile be in English or Arabic?
Choose a language you can use accurately and that fits the organisations you are applying to. Astr suggests your CV's language automatically, and you can change it before preparing the content. Review qualification names and professional terminology in the result.
Where do projects and volunteering go on LinkedIn?
Open Add profile section on your profile. Projects is under Recommended, and Volunteer experience is under Additional. Astr places each type in its own preview section with transfer guidance. For a new project link, choose Add media and then Add a link.
Does Astr update my LinkedIn account automatically?
You transfer the text using the copy buttons, then open LinkedIn to paste and save it. You do not need to give Astr your LinkedIn password. The progress indicator tracks fields copied in Astr, not confirmed saves in your LinkedIn account.
