How does the ATS test work and how is the score calculated?

We use the same ten criteria as Astr's builder: experience or projects 20, skills 15, section clarity 10, identity and contact 10, education 10, dates 10, professional summary 10, consistency 5, wording 5, and presentation 5. The report groups these into five existing categories, totaling 100 points. Missing LinkedIn, courses or languages does not itself deduct points, and numbers alone earn no bonus. These are Astr's advisory weights, not an official ATS standard.

What are ATS systems and why do they matter?

An ATS (Applicant Tracking System) helps employers manage applications, organize candidate information and search it. Clear text and sections help make a resume readable, but workflows and screening criteria vary by employer; formatting alone does not guarantee acceptance or rejection.

Is my data safe when using the grader?

PDF text is extracted in your browser, then sent to Astr's server and the AI provider to structure the CV data and calculate the score. Astr retains assessment results and usage data according to its privacy policy; local file extraction does not mean the entire analysis stays on your device.

What is the ideal score I should aim for?

Green starts at 80/100 in Astr. It is a useful advisory indicator, and reaching 100 is not required. Keep improving if you wish, but do not add skills or numbers that misrepresent your experience just to increase the score. No score guarantees passing an ATS or getting hired.

Why can't the grader read my file?

If the PDF file consists of images (like scanned resumes), the grader won't be able to read the text. Make sure your file contains copyable text. Files created with Word or Astr work perfectly.
